Who or what inspires you to keep improving at the bass?

Happy Monday bassists! What better way to start the week than to think about someone or something that inspires you?

Is there someone or something that inspires you to pick up your bass and practice? Is it perhaps a recording you heard recently, a YouTube video that made you think "I want to figure out how to do that!", or a concert you saw that left an impression?

Please share your inspiration with us here!

I'll kick things off here with my inspirational moment from yesterday:

I had been having a conversation with a colleague here at tonebase, which reminded me about this fantastic video of his I had been meaning to watch (it's here!) and figure out how I could apply these same techniques to bass playing. It also got me thinking about how useful double-stop exercises are for training intonation and hand strength (especially with younger players, or folks whose finger joints have a habit of collapsing).

From there, I took up an old favourite piece of mine, Telemann's Gamba Sonata (arranged for bass, with lots of chords and double-stops) and started to apply some of Kurganov's tips. (By the way - the star of that video, Daniel Kurganov, has actually been behind the cameras/microphones for a number of our bass productions, a truly multi-talented individual who inspires me daily!)
