Show us your Bass!

The double bass community on tonebase has grown a whole lot already in the short time since we launched, so I thought I'd circle back to this great Discussion of the Week we shared back at launch in August - SHOW US YOUR BASS!

Please post a picture (or more!) of your bass - and tell us a little about it too - like who the maker is or may have been; how long you've been partnered with it for; or your favorite qualities of your bass. Basses come in all different shapes and sizes, and it's always fascinating to see the incredible diversity of instruments everyone plays on.

I love to see what basses folks are playing on, and I’m sure lots of other folks in the tonebase community will too!

Cheers,

Travis Harrison

Hi there! This is my Stefan Krattenmacher Solo Model from 2014. It has lived through some rough stuff in the meantime, but is still going strong! :)

Beautiful! I've seen a few of those basses over the years, but never with such nice photos. Always loved Stefan's scroll work especially, and cool to see those gears up close - are they modern from somewhere? Or stolen off an older bass?

thanks! Stefan’s workmanship is second to none! As far as I know the mechanics are made for him and modern in that sense, but he told me the last time I was in the workshop that the kind on my bass (with the wood shaft) is not being produced anymore, if I understood correctly that is… :)

welcome Guy! Always nice to have more than one ground-shaker in the house. I'm curious - does the one on the left have an end pin, or you play it using the stand? Very neat design! Looks like a much classier Yamaha silent bass. Thanks for sharing!

Yes Travis, the MK Classic has an end pin.

Une bonne vieille Bohemia de Tchechoslolvaquie. En contreplaqué, qualité étudiant mais qui offre quand même un son très honnête! Je l'adore!

I have several basses but my newest is an absolutely outstanding instrument from Jacques Mayrand, a Québec maker who spent many years working in France as a car designer for Renault! This background actually gives him a unique perspective. I have played two concerts on this bass already, (it was only finished at the end of August) and I loved playing on it.
